Fun fun fun day yesterday in Giggleswick... Spring's Inspirations/Northern Region Rapier Academy & Champion's Tourney at the Baptist church in Eliot on a beautiful Summer day was the place to be. I dunno if temps hit 80, but it was certainly warm.

Melee class in the morning with Julien went well. Had fun. Let him do most of the talking. He claims I'm really good at melee, but I just am not feeling it... I don't know what the heck I'm doing most of the time; run around, try not to get skewered, be a pest. I can do that last bit, especially if I'm not bounded by walls.

Immediately following Crazy Fencing Time was my gold leaf class. Was OK till other Haus members started showing up and realized I'd have to do this in front of people I knew. gah. It's almost easier to do talks etc in front of complete strangers, because I have no real way to relate to them, I think... whatever, tho. Stammered through the first couple minutes of explanation, then decided, "heck with it, give 'em the gold", and things went much smoother after that. Had more people than expected, but just about what I planned for, which was perfect. Fun times. No stress. Just remember that I'd done it a lot more than all the other people in that room, and all was good.

Popped upstairs and outside to the talk on period fencing techniques with Gregory, was very interesting, what I caught of it. Learned stuff. Was good. Lunch was a lovely picnic on the lawn, with various peoples filtering in and out through the meal. Managed not to get pinecones stuck all over my butt. Was a member of the obstacle course for the mini Fop Olympics. Great fun. Got to hit Q with my fan. Cheeky devil.

Post lunch was fencing tourney! Qualled in case, failed initial rigid parry auth beforehand (do not hit the marshal with the stick. That's bad. Shoulda used a buckler.). During the tourney, I made it to the final 8, somehow. Ogedai killed me for both of my losses... that's nothing to be ashamed of, I don't think. But I will try to keep it from happening quite so quickly next time. Did a fine number on Nataliia... I believe the term "iced" was thrown around. Was a good clean kill on my end, after a bit of snark from her (possibly deserved, had she not been so tired) when I gave up my dagger after taking hers. Was smart and kept my sword in my right hand, and managed to get under her guard (death from below! Thank you,

alexsaintpierre, for the tip.) and skewer. Woo! I lived for another round! Congrats to Morty to winning it for the second year in a row, and

nomadmwe for making it to the final round... you couldn't have had the shiny scroll anyway... ;)

Between tourney and 5-man melee, decided to retry the rigid parry auth. Was apparently too warm, as halfway through, the world went a bit dark and fuzzy. Spent the time of the 5-man melee laying on the floor of the gym with my feet propped up on my fencing mask. Had good company in

nomadmwe and

frothgar, and the rest of the haushold trickled in over the next 20 minutes... Fencer vortex strikes again. bah. 5 man melees are fun, too. Darned summer, coming two months early, me not ready for it.

The culmination of the day was the Apprenticing ceremony for

alexsaintpierre and myself, and we are now officially apprenticed to Carolyne... I have a beautiful belt, he has a beautiful baldric, and we have one of the coolest Laurels for a mommy that anybody could ask for. Thank you to everybody that stayed to watch the ceremony. I hope I do my new family proud. :)
