Summer Berries

Note this. August 23, 2010. Turned the heat on in the car on the way to work. I wore a sweatshirt all day. Was almost cold. At least it's finally raining. The trees are changing already; the usual red maples turning across the street from the nursery are right on time, but I pass a sugar maple on the way to work that has dropped over half of its leaves. So. Dry. Garden is suffering.

Onto happier things, though! Wonderful weekend! Puttering around town on Saturday, got word on the Suzuki. She's been declared totaled, but the value was nearly twice what we expected, and the buyback is less than half (and we ARE buying her back), leaving a thousand dollars or so to fix her, put a downpayment on something else, pay the credit card off, whatever. All that aside, I am definitely buying a shiny shiny red bike. Once we get the loan stuff figured out. Hopefully by the end of the week. I want to ride before it gets too cold, again!

[livejournal.com profile] kr4sh and [livejournal.com profile] mylisant got married on Saturday afternoon. Pictures soon, once I get a chance to go through them all. It was beautiful. Victorian (Steampunk) themed, outdoors, in their lovely backyard. Surrounded by friends and family, and a confetti cannon. Awesome. :)

After the festivities, Max and [livejournal.com profile] anna_mickel and I headed to Portland for the first ever Music and Arts Festival, and CARBON LEAF, live in concert! I had no idea where to go, other than 'it's on Free Street!' We found them. In a parking lot. The nice people at the door took our tickets, and through the gates we went. We were not disappointed. They are wonderful. Max said 'OK, you can pick the music from now on'. I think I did good. :) I know I did. They even played another 20 minutes or so past 11, when they were supposed to have been done. Made me very very happy. Can't wait for their new album.

Made breakfast (pancakes, bacon, delicious French Breakfast Puffs) for M&M&J and me on Sunday morning. Was delightful. I got to use the pretty pretty Butterfly Meadow dishes that I've been collecting here and there (need to pick up the teapot/cups one of these days) (Hooray for Marshall's and TJ Maxx that have them on super-duper sale!). Was wonderful, again.

A good weekend, semi-relaxing, they're just never long enough, though.

Rose & Calla Cake Topper
Originally uploaded by gshower7
Wedding flowers are done and delivered, and by now, the wedding is over. I can have my brain back, for a few days, anyway. Day 6 of heading into work at early o'clock (for me....), and then 2 days off in a row a day where I don't have to think about anything floral or plant-related that I don't want to. Because I inevitably do. There are houseplants that need repotting, and it's going to freeze tonight, so the mandevilla vines really should come in if I want any hope of saving them.

I am overall quite pleased with how all the flowers came out. I realized at 7:30 this morning (too late!) that I screwed up the boutonnieres a bit, but they should have still worked... Jess helped me finish up the corsages yesterday while I did the cake decorations, and I left work only a half hour later than I planned. Not bad at all. A wedding this size, for a friend, if I could get the time off, I would do again. Even with the lack of facilities we have. Not for a while, though. Nobody get excited (I think most of you are married anyway... so nyaah.).

Edit: sigh... two days off in a row next week... this is another 6-day stint for me... hullo comptime... g'bye sleep. That changes my plans a bit.

Weddings!

I love weddings... good feelings are everywhere, just can't be unhappy. :) The look on the groom's face when his bride first comes into view is one of the loveliest sights in the world.

Beautiful weather, if a bit chill (but it is, after all, October). A nice, short ceremony in a pretty church in Cumberland, followed by good food and company at a country club down the road, and D & T are off to Aruba on Monday!

Josh even danced with me, once. He won't admit it, but I think he enjoys it, just a little bit... ;)

And I have new awesome red shoes, getting closer and closer to the Perfect Pair. These are comfy and fabulous, and I've figured out how to walk in them without breaking my ankles. This is a good thing.

Another beautiful September 10th. Just like two years ago, out at Portland Head Light, in the warm September sun and sea breeze. Last year, we were on vacation. We had dinner with Grandma at the Olive Garden, 3,000 miles away. This year, we were both at work... long days... not nearly as much fun. Had a wonderful dinner at the local Olive Garden, though, and did not forget the leftovers on the table (this time).

I am also now the proud owner of a spiffy digital photo frame, too! We've never been traditionalists... gifts for 2nd anniversary are "supposed" to be either cotton or china. Meh. Electronics are just as good. :) Hm, maybe now I can finally display some of our wedding photos, as I still haven't gotten around to having reprints/enlargements done for either frames or the album... a good winter project, I think.

I love you, [livejournal.com profile] kurlon. Now and Forever.

All done!

So... got Sarah and her Josh married yesterday, and they were off to Disney World first thing this morning. A week of relaxation for both of them, I hope.

A beautiful wedding, perfect weather, clear blue sky, and good friends. No time to take photos, doing brides-maidy duties and such, but my dad got some good ones.

Tired now. Sleep.

No plans for this coming up weekend. Going to keep it that way, I think, and putter around the apartment... and sleep a lot.

...and they have made it their mission to pester me (and any other living, breathing entity) to no end.

Yesterday was the Day of the Blackfly.

Those who have ever lived in the northeast, and especially in Maine, know exactly what I am talking about. For those that don't, imagine a cloud of swarming, biting insects, each individual nigh undetectable when they light on exposed skin, and leave behind quarter-sized welts around itchy, itchy bites. Add to this that they seem to think I am their personal and private blood bank, and it all adds up that I should really, really have an indoor job for several weeks in the spring. aaarrggghhh! Just what I need, several nice red welts on my arms, just in time for Sarah's wedding on Sunday (Aaaa! Sunday! Then it's all over!) I'm still wearing a sweatshirt and jeans till then, to stave it off as long as possible...

Now that that's out... cut for whining about work... )

And being crazygonuts at work, of course, leaves no time for fun things like photography. All the trees are finally leafing out, the Amelanchier is blooming PINK in the back garden (I didn't know they came in pink! I think it bloomed white last year... weeeeeirrrrd.) at work, all the magnolias are in full burst, and I'm running around too fast to stop and take a darn photo! Must... remember... to bring... camera... to work tomorrow... aieeees!

Back from NH. Traveling weekends go so FAST, and it didn't help that I ended up taking a 2-hour nap this afternoon, and losing that little bit of weekend... agh. Beautiful weather, if a bit un-seasonal. High 70's all weekend makes for happy plants and the disappearance of the last vestiges of snow.

Bridal shower was fun, my dress is safely at my parents', I found my shoes, and now everybody knows where to be in three weeks for the Big Day. Should be a wonderful time. :)

I got my first sunburn of the year yesterday, too... I don't think I've ever gotten a sunburn in April before. 2 hours in the car, driving east/southeast around noon requires sunscreen, apparently. I had the window open the whole trip down, so I don't know if that helped or hurt matters, but it's definitely red. Not as bad today, thanks to tons of aloe goop. Usually takes more than that to burn, but my pasty pale white winter skin is apparently pretty sensitive right now.

Aieees... the first of many 6-day workweeks is over... Am exhausted. Need sleep soon. Headed South this weekend, first for the Return of Friday Lunch with Max & Mickel, then for some serious Guitar Hero with my brother, then to pick up my beautiful lavender bridesmaids dress for Sarah's wedding next month, but most importantly, for her bridal shower on Saturday! Going to be a fun day, I think.

Swiped from [livejournal.com profile] anna_mickel:

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 123.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next 3 sentences on your blog along with these instructions.

" "But monks live for God," the novice protested.
"And they are also ordinary human beings - no more, no less. That," Brother Adam added gently, "is why we need God's grace."
- Edward Rutherford, The Forest

Interestingly enough, the "nearest book" was 2 stories up... I refuse to include game instruction manuals or cookbooks in this meme, and my computer being in the basement offers little in the way of fine literary material... The Forest, a gift from my mother-in-law this past Christmas, is quite a good book, so far. Gotten me through a couple sessions at the auto mechanics', anyway. Takes place over several centuries, centered around the forest along England's southern coast, stretching from the Norman Conquest and William the Conqueror to present day. I highly recommend, even before I've finished it. :)

Full Wolf Moon
Originally uploaded by gshower7
The rising day-before-full Wolf Moon was beautiful tonight. This is the one really good photo I was able to take, and the last one possible before my very very cold (kept in the car all day oops) camera battery decided to call it quits. Snow expected for tomorrow afternoon, so it may be cloudy. Good moon pictures may not be possible. Get 'em while they're hot! ...er really really cold!

'Twas a good weekend; went home, saw my parents, went dress shopping with Sarah so her sister and I will look all pretty for her wedding in May. Played Guitar Hero III way too late on Saturday night with Nate (he is a bad influence on me... he and his evil little DS Lite with long battery life and PuzzleQuest will be the bane of any productivity or socialness on the weekends I go home.), and then again for a while on Sunday. Working my way up to medium difficulty on some of them, too... hee... my poor li'l pinky finger doesn't quite know what to do. I can hit most of the notes, most of the time, and 90% of the music is good. Particularly 'Radio Song' by Superbus. Go watch! The video is kinda silly. They're French. It's Great Fun. :) (as an aside... does anyone out there know how to rip the audio out of a youtube video?? having some difficulties finding a simple program for code-stupid people aka me...) nevermind, all set...

Went to the track and watched Josh zip around in circles for a while, then we went out to dinner with [livejournal.com profile] frothgar. The Tuxedo Mousse (Amaretto over chocolate..... covered in chocolate... with raspberry drizzle... and whipped cream) at the Longhorn Steakhouse is to die for. I have dessert for the next 3 days, though...

Now to finish a dress in time for Birka... on Saturday... hm... right! To The Machine!
