Achievement Unlocked: Crushing Debt
WE CAN HAS HOUSE!!!
kurlon and I are now the proud owners of three little pieces of brass that will unlock two different doors, neither of them the front entrance.
All the paperwork took about 45 minutes, we got our key, three of the most expensive pens we've ever bought, and a great big pile of happy. The credit union even gave us a little thank-you gift; a backpack, with a couple water bottles, a travel mug, regular mug, more pens & a few pads of paper, and a little 6-in-1 travel game set. Aw. Can't say enough good things about People's Choice CU. They have been incredibly helpful, understanding, and patient through this whole thing.
We went to the house after signing lots of papers, stopped by a flooring place down the road, set up an appointment for next Friday for them to come out and measure and at least give us a quote. At the house, we saw at least a few of the mousetraps did the job we'd set them to do, wandered around, turned lights on and off, and generally reveled in the fact that we were finally inside the house, on our own, legally! Measured the garage door that needs replacing, and have since discovered that a replacement will be a whole lot of fun to try and obtain at a reasonable price... 10' wide x 8' tall is apparently NOT a standard size. *sigh* So the weirdness begins... :) What else will we find, I wonder?
We will be stopping by to see the kitties before heading over tomorrow. New locksets are a primary focus, then we're going to clear out the junk and icky carpets, wash floors, and generally start to make the place habitable. First order of business when we arrive, though, is to take the cliché photo in front of the brokerage sign... I don't think we'll have a 'SOLD' sign on the top, but darnit, it's our first house, we've got to do it!! Can't wait to take photos of empty, clean rooms too... :)

You're totally on the right track in getting quotes for carpet/flooring. It's not hard to DIY; however, at least get someone else to pull the old crap for you since you never know if the carpet will have BroadLock glue holding it down or not... ;)
Good luck on the oddball sized garage door! Those are such a pain in the butt.

My dad's ripped out a lot of carpet in his days, and is coming up prepared with an ice scraper that's worked pretty well in their house. :) I know for a fact that at least one room will be pretty much "roll it up, stuff it out the door." That's the room where the dog lived... ew.
SO EXCITED. :D

Even if you have to redo the sub-floor in the icky dog room, it's really not all that difficult either! Plus it's a lot of fun if you get to use one of those little nail guns. :D

Can't wait to see it!
