Flora and Fauna
May. 16th, 2008 02:49 pmTwo actual days off this weekend, in a row. Thank goodness... It's been a long week. Time to putter around in the garden, though!
My morning glories and Moonflowers are up, and growing nicely. Morning glories are a bit stretchy, and a few of them die every day... I think I'm just going to plant them outside. I've picked up a few more packets of seeds if they don't make it, as I don't think they're honestly that far ahead of where they could be if I just direct-seed them...
Two pea plants grew, one at each end of the row. Hunh. I've re-planted. Also put the beans in, and will have to get new lettuce seeds, as nothing came up there. My fancy carrots have failed, so we will have nice orange ones again. Next year, maybe, for the fun purple, yellow, and white varieties. Tomato and Cucumber plants will go in next weekend, I hope, along with marigolds... they seemed to keep the buggies away last year, I'm willing to try again!
The sparrows are getting braver; I can sit out on the back patio steps and they'll fly to the feeder, chatter at me a bit, and then settle down and eat. I do love the expression of the little guy in the photo... How dare I stick a camera in his face (through the window, even!) whilst he's eating!
No hummingbirds yet, as far as I can tell, though I set the feeder out last week. Some of my customers at work have them, but they've not shown up here yet. Might still be too cool at night. Can't remember quite when they showed up last year; I'll have to check.
Been taking tons of close-up flower photos this year (have I mentioned I love my camera..?), will have to sort through them and make a gallery of the best ones soon...
