...because it's rain, and not snow! Better wet than white, at least for the moment.

Slept OK last night, even with the fear that the phone would ring at 3 AM (it didn't), and for the second day in a row, woke up at 10:30 feeling rested. The ringing phone woke me this morning, but it was "unknown name unknown number", so I didn't bother to answer. No message, not gonna call back (not that I could, anyway). Whoever invented Caller ID has my eternal blessing.

And I am happy, because I remembered that Mr. Pillsbury came to our house a few nights ago, and baked me oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Oatmeal is a breakfast food, right? :) Though we are getting onto lunch now.

Today is project day. Decided, I think, that I'm going to drag myself out of bed earlyish on Thursday, and do the turkey on Thanksgiving day. It'll need that extra day to thaw, anyway, unless I wanted to stick it in the bathtub (I think it's too big to fit in the sink...). I will finish the sewing that has been piling up for months, after, of course, straightening up the sewing room *again*. It seems like I have to do that a lot... I need to get rid of some stuff, maybe...

Edit: 100 Minutes War is over, so the scroll gallery can be made public. OTC Scroll for Erich Hundemann, not as much detail as some previous, because the end product was just so much nicer than the process... I LOVE THE DOGGIE!!! And so did he, I hear. Makes me happy.

I cannot remember the last time we've had such constant, pouring rain all day long, combined with horrific wind gusts that are starting to make me nervous, surrounded as we are with tall pine trees. Pines are not the strongest-wooded trees around, but relatively springy, so let us hope that the winds subside before much longer. The clanging of the neighbor's buoy bell has been a near constant too... I like them, but I think any more, and I'll go a bit nuts.

Lost power for a few hours today, which forced me to get away from the computer (but my people! my little people! they NEED me!!), and clean up the sewing room, which I did. And got some sewing done, even. Sydney can have her winter coat back, before winter. I have 5 work shirts now, and a complete set of napkins. Is good. I do think I need a new UPS for the computer, as the power went out, and the computer followed immediately after. Not even 5 minutes. Hm.

Turkey will be cooked Wednesday afternoon, I have decided. Going to brine it tonight, take care of the cooking tomorrow evening. We'll order out for pizza, or have spaghetti, or something that doesn't require the oven. My days off are going away very quickly... aiees...

and fortunately it's allll liquid.

In the spirit of Thanksgiving, I would like to offer my sincere thanks to whatever blood sacrifice or other offering was made to whatever being it is that controls the weather this week. I don't even want to think about how much snow we would have gotten out of this storm (which is still going... pouring down rain, still). I don't have to; the news reports that the mountains have over a foot, and it's still coming down. Coastal areas are flooding. I drove across several inches-deep pools and rivers of water on the way home from fencing tonight. There may have even been some hail thrown in every now and then for good measure.

I am thankful for 51 degree temperatures at 11:00 PM in late November, during a precipitation-based weather event.
I am thankful for the ground being above 34 degrees, so said precipitation stays liquid, and not glassy frozen horribleness.
I am thankful for good tires on my car.
I am thankful for a basement that does not leak.
I am thankful that we are not one of the 35,000 still without power, and that ours came back on after only an hour and a half of darkness.

Now to see if the turkey has thawed sufficiently to get it into the brine... we shall see. Turkey may have a bath to encourage fewer ice crystals...
