Spring is coming...
Mar. 8th, 2009 12:21 amToday proves it. It was at least 65 degrees out (thanks,
sprirtwolf, for sending those extra 15-25 degrees up here! Glad you could spare 'em.). Sunny, warm, springlike. My houseplants were happy and sunlit this morning.
I opened up all the doors and windows and aired out the apartment.
I washed my car. I vacuumed my car, with the loan of new neighbor's shopvac. They're nice guys, our new neighbors (were having a party tonight, by the sounds of it... over now).
All the neighbors in our little 4-plex came out at one point or another to enjoy the sunshine and warmth and talk and listen to the water rushing off the roof as the snow melted.
The glacier on the garden box receded over 2' today. I have green shoots coming up from the daylilies and chives, and the mint is definitely growing. The thyme right up against the building is starting to bud, too, and there are little hints of violas where I know the yellow one lives. I so wanted to dig in the dirt... only the top inch or so is anywhere near thawed... I must be patient. Casualties so far include my $5 strawberry pot... shouldn't have left it outside. Oh well. The strawberry plants inside are still fine.
Little lettuce sprouts got a vacation outside on the porch steps. They seem happier for it. Brought the grape hyacinths and (as of yet unsprouted) sensitive plants out too; there is one little tiny tip of hyacinth leaf poking through the exact center of the pot. Out they go again tomorrow morning if it's anything like today.
A little bit of spring cleaning inside happened when the sun shifted, and clouds moved in to cover, cooling it off... nothing major... might do more tomorrow.
Spring is coming. I am ready. Let's do this.
Of course... it's supposed to snow again on Monday... I know better than to expect miracles... it's still definitely winter (see ref: 15+" of snow still on the yard), and this is Maine. But the end is in sight.
