Back to the Garden

A Saturday to myself, when it's not raining... Nice. Need to go grocery shopping later, then it's off to the (repaired!) hot tub chez Freegate this evening, but I could putter and take a few needed photos of the little garden box in the sunshine.
Lettuce is growing quite nicely, as are round 2 of the peas. Need to get a support of some kind on the new crop, before they take over the bed. A few seeds from peas round 1 have sprouted behind the cucumber trellis as well... ok, sure. Why not?
Finally have some good tomatoes growing; hopefully they'll ripen before frost comes. There are 6, I think, all clustered together, and potentially a few more up higher on the plant. I had to stuff a few 6' wooden stakes in the ground, through the cage, because it's getting so tall. The tomaccio is going to get a haircut today. It's starting to take over, like any good cherry tomato will, but I am less than thrilled with the fruit itself; it splits with the slightest increase in water, and really isn't anything spectacular, taste-wise. I'm sure they're wonderful dried (supposed to be very sweet, raisin-y), but I haven't ever gotten enough to warrant drying any. Back to basics next year, I think.
A few carrots are starting to show tops above ground; I think I'm going to let them grow as long as they like, unless I get a real craving for fresh carrots. Cucumbers continue to be mediocre at best. I should just pull them out.
It's been getting cooler at night... I don't think the mimosas like it. They're dropping leaves and not looking real happy. Will have to remember to start bringing them in after dark. The larger one has a bunch of seeds, though. I might be able to make more next year (though, note to self: potential invader? southern parts of the US, yes. probably not up here. Still, best to not let it escape.). My plants also seem to be a bit tall and leggy. All other photos I've seen, they're nice bushy little plants. Maybe they're in too much sun? More research is required...
