A fantastic weekend (more on that later), ending with crappy news...

The fun, exciting thing that I hoped to tell you all about was that we'd finally found a house worth buying. Somebody else will be living there, however. Our offer was rejected, somebody else's accepted. Back to square one.

Edit, 10:24 PM: Oh, and Eros, my pretty pretty crowntail Betta died (been not well for a couple weeks, now anyway)... at least he did it before I left for Saturday's event, and not while I was gone, as usually happens. Poor [livejournal.com profile] kurlon, left to clean out the fishtanks...

*hugs* sorry sweetie! Hang in there! House hunting can be god-awful frustrating, I know. :(
Better luck next time!

Frustrating doesn't begin to describe it.

After watching the market, looking for over a year and a half, we missed out on the one viable real opportunity to come along. I'm no longer interested in trying to make all my plans based around the vague possibility that something might happen in the indeterminate future, I'm done looking. It's not worth it.

Despite J's frustrations, we are going to keep looking. No sense giving up now. Ya never know... hopefully we'll be asking everybody to help us move relatively soon. ;)

Good plan. When buying our house, I forgot the lesson I learned the first (and only) time I bought a brand new car. I thuoght "I'm paying a helluva lotta money for this, shouldn't I get exactly what I want?" Apparently not, unless i wanted to wait an extra 3-6 months, which was untenable at the time. I ended up with a different color, and an automatic instead of a standard. Our house was _very_ close to what we wanted, but it wasn't in as good a condition, and it wasn't on as much land. Went for it anyway, and even offered about 5k more than the asking price, because we were sick of looking and it was 'close enough'. :}
.. I hope that wasn't preachy.
lots of luck to you!!
*hugs*

Not preachy, no worries. :) Perhaps a different/better perspective, is all. I'm not done yet. I don't want to just "settle" for something, I want to want it, and I think we'll find it.

Good for you! It's a different market now, too, from when we were shopping 5 years ago. If you don't like your realtor, or you think he or she is wasting your time, don't hesitate to find a new one!

Wow... I thought that might be it, and I'm really sorry to hear it. The economy may be doing its thing, but housing still hasn't gotten to where people can realistically afford most of it without some kind of windfall around here....

Crappy indeed.

Eyup... one more for the books. We are keeping looking for now, not really looking forward to moving in winter, but if we stop, I'm pretty certain THE HOUSE will come on the market, and we'd miss it... Murphy's law, and all... le sigh. Time to start seriously padding the savings accounts so we can find something in the spring, perhaps.
