Fort Knox Demo Recap

Unpacking is (mostly) done, stuff halfway organized, laundry has been started, photos sorted. Muscle soreness nearly gone. I is a happy fencer. The Fort had record attendance; over 1600 people paid entry fees, and there were plenty of folks who just wandered in through the picnic area. Supposedly the largest event EVER held there. It was pretty packed. Lots of photos here.
alexsaintpierre can claim credit for all the ones of the fencing inside the courtyard. Thanks very much; it's hard to take photos of myself. ;)
Max, Mickel, and I arrived around 4:00 on Friday afternoon, just in time for alllll the mosquitoes in central Maine to come out and find us. Got the pavilion set up anyway, went to dinner in Bucksport (had a lovely duck...), went back at the fort just as Alex & Ninian arrived, set up their tent, and settled in for a lovely evening by the fire, as the unofficial Maine State Birds had retired for the night.
Saturday morning dawned bright and mostly clear. Few clouds. No wind. Semi-leisurely breakfast, then was time to make ourselves presentable before the hordes of people showed up. I took my usual wander around the fort while it was still in the relative quiet of just us SCA folks setting up. Took some silly videos. Had meant to take more through the day, but was rather busy. Probably best that I didn't... I'll spare you all my inane rambling narrations... (important note: little pieces of tape over the external mics on my camera SO cut down on wind/background noise. Most excellent.)
Hordes of people showed up. They had tours of our tents, watched lots of fencing, listened to our music, watched fighting, tried thrown weapons (I've still never made it down there...), saw some combat archery, and danced a bit, even. We sang, played music, and I fenced. Oh boy, did I fence. A lot. Had FUN. Had a bout or three with just about all the fencers that were there, put on a good show for the crowd with my cording challenge and prize fights (one lady stayed for the entire demo, just to see if I'd won my prize. Wow. We must've done some good schtick.), and did not collapse (from exhaustion. Collapsed plenty in dramatic death scenes...).
I did successfully complete my prize fights, and am now a Provost in the League of Rapier Academies. Go me! No official blue cord yet... we... sorta skipped that part. Whups. At practice, maybe.
Such a fun demo, so good to see all the northern/central folks. We closed down the site, as usual. Packout was not nearly the frantic rush it was last year, under threat of rain. This year, we packed dry canvas. Cloudy, but no danger of precipitation. Evening spent in the hot tub after arriving back at Freegate was a Good Thing. No mosquitoes. Good for sore fencer muscles.
