Pennsic Peace

As I see others are returning from war, I am headed up the coast, today, to protect our East from the last possibilities of invaders by sea...
After a (relatively) brief talk with a lake association (what? Me? working on my day off? yes... I'm being paid well for it. And I think I'm going to enjoy myself, even.), I am joining Max & Mickel at Chewonki to do some serious relaxing. Will have photos. It's a beautiful spot. Weather is due to be perfect, so far.
Other highlights of this week:
- Mom & Dad came and had lunch with me on my birthday. :) The conversation about the motorcycle accident went about like I thought it might... Dad sez "so... didn't ride the bike today?" Me - "heh... noooooo... let me tell you about that..."
- Fencing on Tuesday. No Pennsic woods battle, but there were a few of us who got off our butts at practice, and I had a good night.
- Roof is fixed! We hope. Roofers recommended by my co-worker came out on Tuesday, spent the day, and have redone the geometry of the leaky part of the roof so it will not leak anymore or form ice dams in the winter. For not a lot of money, too. And there is a Plan for the roof of the 3rd garage. We may have a deck instead of a sunroom for a few years, but that's OK. The roof won't leak or collapse, and we'll have our outdoor gathering area. Yay!
- SHINY SHINY RED MOTORCYCLE!! Used Monster 620, at MM. Reasonably affordable. SHINY. RED. Has a hold on it. G has promised he won't sell it out from under me. Now we just need to get the insurance taken care of so I can pay for the darn thing. I will have a monthly payment again, for a bit, but it will be well affordable.
- More pickles. Tried a batch of quick sweet pickles last night. They're all wrinkly. Maybe there is something to soaking the cucumbers in water for 2 weeks straight before adding the sugar/vinegar syrup. B&B pickles came out beautifully, though.
Not-really highlights:
- Had to work on my birthday. Pout.
- STILL no insurance quote so we can get an adjuster out to look at Suzi. If J and I weren't friends with G, this would be done by now. ARGH.
- We have a groundhog. Digging under the driveway. A trap is set, he will be gone soon, hopefully.
Ok, enough of that. Off I go, to the lake, then to the ocean. A good couple of days.
