Longest. Workday. Evar.

And it wasn't just me... everybody at the shop today mentioned that time just craaaaawwwwllllled. Got some stuff done, not as much as I wanted... I'm trying to be smart this year and get the greenhouses cleaned out and sterilized and closed before it gets too cold out. That'll be a first. Also cleaning out the upstairs floral cooler so I have a chance in having a workspace for the wedding in 3 weeks. Even though we're not doing Floral anymore; it wasn't profitable. We filled it with Christmas stuff, and old files, and our "backup" computer monitors, printers, etc, that we will probably never use again. Because we aren't doing Floral anymore. We also took out the sink and capped off the plumbing. Because we aren't doing Floral anymore. Except this once... because it's a friend of the boss's getting married. Arrgh. I must have been crazy when I said 'Oh, sure, I think I can make it work'... darn it all. I can make it work, it'll just be... interesting.

Still no killing frost; my nasturtiums are still green and blooming, and I have strawberries ripening. There's nothing else like fresh strawberries in September. :) We cleaned out the "garden" at work yesterday, mostly. LOTS of hot peppers. A few Blue Hubbard squash. One itty bitty butternut squash (only 5" long. SO CUTE!), which I left on the vine, in the hopes that it will grow a bit more, and ripen. Didn't get nearly the squash yield we did last year, but I think it also got put in later. And the month and a half of straight rain didn't help much, I imagine...

Total accomplishment on Friday was 6 jars of bread and butter pickles, 2 jars of piccalilli, and 4 jars of (hopefully tasty) tomato sauce. I am never making tomato sauce again*. Gah. I am *still* finding tomato seeds in the kitchen where there should never have been tomato seeds. My 6 carrots are ready for picking, they've crowned. Hoping that the 'Carnival' and 'Purple Haze' or 'Deep Purple' (if I can get them...) will have a better germination rate next year. Fun carrot colors! I am going to try the seed tape again next year, maybe soaking the seeds before sticking them down will help.

In other venues... I am futzing with music tonight. It has been mentioned many a time that we need music of both 'Black Nag' and 'Korobushka' so we have a chance to actually do them at practice. I managed to find both, free for download, though the version of Korobushka is played by a German oom-pah band... it's... amusing. But it will work, I think! Just have to mess with tempos and volume, and make all the repeats work. I was so tempted to just plug in the theme from 'Tetris', but it didn't *quite* work... :D

*I say this now... if I get a goodly number of ripe Husky Gold tomatoes all at once some year, I just might make another batch... I think they'd be good, and yellow-orange tomato sauce would just be cool.
