What has been seen cannot be unseen...
Dec. 24th, 2009 11:30 amI will spare you all the gory (and they were gory) details, and say simply that even if the freezer was working (it isn't), there is not enough bleach or Lysol in the world to make me want to keep the refrigerator that is currently in our new house.
Max gave me a hand yesterday, and we made significant progress in the Battle Against the Stuff. After a quick tour, he took the upstairs, I dove into the downstairs bathroom, and away we went. Found lots of evidence of mice, but none of the critters themselves. I would wager that they'd moved out a while ago. There did not appear to be any recent signs, at least. Saved the kitchen for last. Oh god oh god whyyyyy... Friends, for the love of all that is good in the universe, no matter how upset you are, if you find you are losing your home, please, please, please a thousand times, at least clean out the fridge. *shuddertwitch*
All perishable food is out of the kitchen, one section of countertop is clean, and it looks a thousand times better. Scrubbing Bubbles are a godsend. Much more to do, still, but the nastiness is mostly gone. I cannot wait to cook in my new kitchen. :)
Max did find a nice(ish) emerald ring in what will soon be my sewing room. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with it yet. It's kinda pretty, but doesn't really fit any of my fingers... meh.

kurlon found the tip online. We had a big pile of powdered soot in the corner of the living room where the pellet stove used to be, and didn't want to grind it into the carpet trying to vacuum it out. Salt apparently does something magical, bonds to soot, or something, and it all came up. Relatively pale colored carpet, and it's like the mess was never there. We should totally market that, somehow...
