Herne the Hunter
Nov. 30th, 2009 10:59 pm'kay, so, more. :) Photos are here. Pretty pretty rainbow that afternoon.
The 10+ hour drive to Nova Scotia is wonderful as long as there are at least two people in the car. It poured, misted, and was foggy the entire way up. Got there about an hour later than we'd hoped, but Guthfrith and Isobel were awake and ready for us when we rolled in at 4:30 AM, unloaded, thanked them profusely for letting us stay, and promptly fell unconscious in our rooms.
Saturday was more awake. 4 hours sleep. Wheeeee.... Spent the day watching fun fighting, accompanying the Queen around the event, fetching tea etc, and generally having a good time. Feast was phenomenal, dancing afterward was fun, and seeing folks and hanging out with everybody at the post-revel at the house was wonderful. Astrid and I even got little Ruantallan pins for being first time visitors to the Barony! So nifty!
Best part of the whole weekend: just finishing breakfast on Sunday, sitting at the table, Isobel and I were talking garb, and plants, and all sorts of things, and Guthfrith looks at the both of us and says "are you two actually the same person...?". We burst out laughing, I made the point that no, we couldn't be; Isobel's accent is different, and she's a later period than I am. ;) Also, a bit later, looking through photos on my camera of the event and past events, it was interrupted by photos of my beautiful white Zygocactus. Cue eyeroll and more laughter from Guthfrith, saying "ah, somebody else's camera that looks like ours!" More giggling ensued. Then Astrid and I had to leave. Was sad.
Drive back was uneventful. Beautiful sunset. Nice to see some of the country that we drove through in the pitch dark and fog two nights before. Green rolling fields and farms everywhere. Stopped at the Masstown Market to grab sandwiches for lunch (and Coke), got some fun potato chips (sour cream & bacon!), and continued on our way... home by 10:30. Long drive. Fun drive. And actually a pretty easy one. I am much more awake than I thought I'd be. Wheeeee Canada!
No trouble at the border crossing, even when the guard asked "did you buy anything that you're bringing back with you?" and Astrid said "food", I said "potato chips?" and he looked at us like we were a bit nuts... Oh well. Back home now.
December is a month off from SCA travel, I think I need a break. I have a gown and a pretty pretty hat to make!
