Well dangit.

Awoke to (expected) more light fluffy snow this morning.

[livejournal.com profile] kurlon was possibly going to take my car to work, so I could use the HiHy to run my errands, and then head south. Poor Rosie, try as she may, simply cannot get more than 10 feet past the driveway. The road is a steep hill, covered in sheer ice, covered with a niiiice fluffy layer of snow, hasn't been plowed, or sanded, and I have now come to grips (heh) that I am going to have to shell out for snowtires.

Or a tank. Anybody know of one used, cheap?

So... woke up this morning, at 8:00, to J's alarm.

My first thought: Aaah! I slept through my alarm! I'm late!

Second thought: Oh, wait, no... it's Friday. I don't have to go to work today. Awesome...

Third though, slightly more coherent: Ah, crud. Except it's actually Tuesday... at least I don't have to be there till 11.

Aside from wandering through the day in a slight daze (yay for not leaving work yesterday till 7:30...), it wasn't all that bad... and I only have two more days of work, then an actual weekend. Where I'm not doing anything. Really. OK, will be playing in K's garden, and hopefully finishing some of the molding work (finally) on Friday, nothing is planned. Ahhhh...

Now, to fencing.

Done now. Don't wanna anymore. Bleah. Roll over and go back to bed now, kay?

Ok, so maybe I'm being over-dramatic (who, me? never...) )

It hasn't been all bad, really. Got the fabric re-dyed, properly this time, though it's still not dark enough... perhaps mixing the teal dye with dark blue...? Not really looking forward to yet another afternoon spent kneeling by the bathtub... And probably, for my own sanity, not going to try and scramble to create garb out of said fabric for the Steampunk event on May 1. Seems like a good time to relax at home, and then visit the Tyger and Bucket Tavern in the evening. Looking forward to fencing at the Fort this Saturday, definitely.

Dinner with the neighbors on Sunday was wonderful. We are in the Right Place. Everyone was so welcoming, and friendly, and instantly neighbors. There are 4 little boys that live on the road, 2 belonging to our neighbors, 2 to the couple at the end of the road (waaaaaaay down at the end). Good kids, all. We figured out where the sheep came from (belong to M & D at the bottom of the hill), saw the pond, listened to the chirping of baby chickens all evening, caught up on all the gossip and scuttlebutt related to the former owners of our home (and oh boy... the stories... to be shared at some point, promise.). Had real baked beans (not from a can) for the first time in my life. Delicious dinner. We all played dominoes afterward, and M, who is 7, just hopped up on the chair next to me, and acted like he'd known me for years, not just barely a few hours. I felt like I was sitting around the table at Grandma S's, with all my cousins. I can't adequately describe how wonderful it was. We are in the Right Place.

So... I've had better days.

Not that yesterday was awful, honestly. I got a lot of stuff done. Organized the bathroom (mostly), did laundry (lots, some of it's even folded and put away), got rid of some cardboard boxes, put curtains up and hung a picture in my (still disaster, but getting better) sewing room, hung out with the kitties...

Attempted to dye 9 yards of cotton (we think) denim a beautiful teal color. It did not go well. I followed all the instructions, to the letter, 2 boxes of dye per load, hot water, salt, etc for the dye bath, used the proper level of water in the washing machine, and as a result, I got the most beautiful pale teal you've ever seen. NOT what I wanted at all. Don't quite know what happened. I used the tiniest blop of detergent, maybe that was even too much. There were 4 more boxes at the store, I'll pick them up sometime this week and try again. Maybe without detergent this time.

I started and finished the illumination for the Northern Region Rapier Champion's scroll, which is really nice, I think. Simple but pretty. Figured out how to get the glass paint to behave and take gold leaf properly. Good success there. Prepped sheets for the gold leaf class I was going to teach this morning at Spring's Inspirations...

Instead, at about 10:00 last night, whilst waiting for paint to dry, the icky feeling that had been trying to settle into my throat all day finally did, complete with chills and full-body ache. Ah crud. Finished the scroll and class prep, but sent an email letting [livejournal.com profile] anna_mickel know I probably wasn't going to make it to the event. Woke up this morning feeling not a lot better, with the same misery. Max picked up the scroll and class supplies (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] alexsaintpierre for taking over for me) on the way to the event, after dealing with his own crisis this morning, a busted water heater. Fun all around.

Poo. I'm sick, therefore no motivation to do anything around the house that needs doing, my plants are covered in snow, and I'm missing an event. Sigh. Enough wallowing in self-pity now, time to get motivated.
