Nov. 9th, 2011 09:04 pmA beautiful, if chilly, day in Bergental.
Headed south with
ninian_vesalius on Friday night, to meet
anna_mickel and Max for dinner at one of our favorite restaurants before heading to my parents' house. Dinner was lovely, my parents had power back, finally, when we got there (only to lose it half an hour later, just before we could warm water up for tea... back on again by 10:30 though), and life was good. We had an early night, but not before Mickel finished up stitching the sooper-sekrit project for the next morning's court.
Trip to the site was uneventful. Awful to see all the downed trees and broken branches from the Halloween Nor' Easter, and it only got worse the further south we went. Trees turned into piles of toothpicks, roads partially blocked, crabapple branches loaded with fruit, lying on the ground. Sad.
Found the site, parked, and got to hug people practically right as I got out of the car. Happy. I realized very quickly how much I needed to be out and with friends. It was a good day. Shortly thereafter we got our viewing pavilion set up, chairs out, and my camera ready and clicking away. Found Xavier,
nomadmwe,
lanome,
kragore, and
isabel_london, among others. So wonderful to see everybody.
Two wonderful surprises in morning court, one for Wilhem, receiving his OTC, and one for Carolyne, joining the Order of the Pelican. We got her good. Beautiful collaboration on the scroll between
anna_mickel, myself, and Honig, and beautiful work on the cloak by MJ and
anna_mickel. Beautiful stained-glass embroidery, since my timing is awful, and I couldn't do the applique we were originally thinking of... Aneleda's sung Gregorian rendition of the rules of the list was a thing of beauty as well. High mass, on the listfield. Brilliant.
Lots of good fighting, Julien made it to the sweet 16, which was fun to see. Definitely glad I brought the warm fuzzy fur-lined cloak, and thought to grab the silk scarf. That came in handy when I didn't want to wear the heavy cloak. I need to make a 15th century warm overdress not made of velvet... wool, lined in silk, perhaps. Mmmm... Or at least finish the warmer hood. That I do have the wool, and the silk for.
Finals came down to a sunset battle between Earl Edward Grey and Sir Kenric of Warwick. Sir Kenric was victorious, with a beautiful rap shot, right to the side of Edward's head, in the final bout. A fantastic finish.
Court moved along, several AoAs, we Maunches snuck up on Honig, and Ygraine is now a Baroness. Well deserved for all. Glad to crawl back in the car and head to dinner and then home afterward, though. Long day. Good day, but a long day. Our Garmin decided to take us the scenic route back to my parents' too, so the trip back was longer than it could have been, but saw some of NH that I haven't in a while. Lots more downed trees. Bed had never felt so good.
Thanks, everyone, for the hugs and sympathy on my arm and bike... I'm healing. Physically and mentally. Life goes on. :)
