Snow Dogs

Last day of dog-sitting. M comes home tonight, hopefully with a minimum of fuss and pain in the new knee.

Both dogs are sitting by the glass doors, content (for the moment) to watch the snow falling outside. It's been threatening since about noon, but has finally started coming down in earnest. Not supposed to amount to anything significant, and it's kinda pretty... Crows have been hanging out in the cherry tree outside the windows all day, black against the white-gray of the sky. They know how to be noticed.

Perennial orders are now set for 2010. Mostly. Things will change when the season actually starts, and there will be additions, and adjustments, and cancellations on both ends. Hoping our plug program will finally get off the ground and prove to be as lucrative and effective as I think it will be. Last fall we dug a LOT of the older clumps of plants, divided the heck out of them, and potted them up. Hopefully all those divisions make it through the winter and give us a nice start in the spring. THAT's the way to do perennials, none of this buying in finished stuff... not at what the most of the growers charge. And it's nice to play in the dirt, as well as being better for the plants themselves. Next step: only dig what we can sell in the next year. We're not going to need to order certain colors/varieties of daylily for a few years...

Day two of dog-sitting. Lovely, sunny day, but colder, so the girls aren't quite as soggy-pawed when they come in from running around outside. They've had their afternoon barking fit at somebody walking down the road, and are now snoring in the sunshine. It's a Good Day. No Twilight Zone for background noise today, I get a Psych marathon on USA instead.

Can't wait for Birka this weekend! Lots of stuff happening, lots of people to see. [livejournal.com profile] valkyrie1972's awesome dress is just about done, not sure if the chemise will be finished, depends if the fabric gets here tomorrow or Friday... even if it is Friday, sewing garb on the way to the event is a proud SCA tradition, may as well continue it! Very excited to see everybody, let's hope for at least a couple parking spots still in the garage at the hotel... :)

So, my boss's wife is having knee surgery today, so I'm at their house, watching the dogs, relaxing in a rocking chair, attempting to work on the perennial order. The Twilight Zone is on SyFy (agh dumb name change for that station), so it's entirely possible I'll be ordering some strange plants, but Rod Serling and I are getting along just fine.

BB and Seven (the doggies - German Shorthaired Pointers) are snoring on their beds, relaxed and happy. We've just come in from a runaround in the snow, and it is now sleep time. They're good girls. BB is either 5 or 6 now, and doesn't quite fit on my lap like she did when she was a puppy... We spent several April afternoons in the office together, before the store was opened, and she would nap on my lap. Scrappy, the tuxedo cat, and Winnie, their lovely blue-point traditional Siamese have come out of hiding as well. Lunchtime for everybody soon, I suspect.

In other, very exciting news, we will be closing on our house in the next two weeks!! Finally heard something from the realtors; they've both been pushing the bank pretty hard in the last month or so, and the long wait will be soon be over! Now we get to start shopping and planning for floors, and get back to looking at fridges and ovens. EEEEEYAY! It would be lovely to not pay double rent for a month, but I'm thinking mid-March will be the moving date... The last two February and first March weekends are full of SCA for me, but we'll make things work!
